First Flight - John Lee, Cannon Falls, MN

After spending all morning putting gas in the tanks one gallon at a time, I took off from Stanton Airport (KSYN) on 8/9/01 at about 1245 pm. The right wing was heavy, but the airplane flew good. The tach went up to 2800 RPM and so I pulled off a little power and it settled down to 2700 RPM. I am using a flight test program that I got off the Internet and it called for a 30 minute first flight. The landing was good until I hit Stanton's infamous mid field bump and I became airborne again. Subsequent landings have been flown at slower airspeeds with better results. Yesterday was spent making adjustments and today's flights were uneventful except I still have a heavy right wing. I'll squeeze the left aileron some more tomorrow. Surprisingly, Van's rinky dink foil wing tip VOR antenna works OK. With 4.2 hours on the clock I still have lots more tests to perform. One disturbing thing is that the bottom cowl paint is blistering wh! ere the exhaust runs too close. I used epoxy urethane paint so repair will be simple.
