Adding Vinyl Trim Graphics to Tom Berge's RV-7A
Tom Berge finished his RV-7A in June of 2002. It was painted by a local automotive painter in Plymouth, MN with a base color of "all-over" yellow (really bright yellow!). He decided to add trim using the computer cut vinyl trim process. After getting one rather expensive quote from a shop that specialized in aircraft work, he decided to look locally. Doug Weiler referred him to Trick Communications in Hudson, WI.
Rick Whitmire is the owner of Trick Communications and he was excited to do the graphic design on an homebuilt airplane. Tom and Rick met at Lake Elmo and Rick took several photos and went back to the shop to come up with a design that Tom might like. About a week later the layout was finalized and on Friday, September 12, Rick and his crew met Tom at Lake Elmo and the transformation began....
BEFORE.. a brilliant but plain yellow RV-7A
Rick and his crew begin the trim process
The vinyl trim is deigned on the computer and cut on a special machine
Here's the usual suspects: Eric, Reed, Rick, and Tom
The trim is positioned and burnished in place.
The backing is peeled off and instant color!! The trim has a seven year life.
Black accent trim is applied. (Check out the cool builder's signature!... wife Karen's is on the right hand side)
N numbers use the same process
Note the blatant display of credit for this beautiful RV-7A
But there must be equal billing!!!
The final product the following day at Eau Claire
Tom was very happy with the end result. The neat thing about this process is that if you get tired of the design, it can be easily removed and a new one applied. Trick Communications has many years of experience in sign and trim design and fabrication. For any of you that may be about to finalize of your paint scheme, you might consider talking with Rick at 715-381-6800 about using this trim process.
